Related search for Google AdSense content pages
Google unveils a new AdSense ad unit called Related Search for Content Pages. As seen above, this new feature includes advertisements that display search terms related to the content of the pages your users read.
Related search for content pages is a feature of Google AdSense for search. It is therefore designed to monetize your site’s search results. You can create related search blocks in your AdSense account and style them to match your site. You can then add the associated search unit to your site with a simple code change.
Remember the types of AdSense link units Google removed last year? It seems a bit like that, doesn’t it? Users are therefore encouraged to do so explore relevant topics on your site and engage with search ads.
To use related search on your content pages, simply follow the steps provided by Google. You’ll need to contact your account manager to activate AdSense for search in your AdSense account. It also complies with the Custom Search Ads policies and the AdSense for search policies.
You can create related search groups in your AdSense account, style them to match the look and feel of your site, and then start using them with a simple code change.
Here are some of these best practices for using this new Google AdSense feature:
- Make sure there is enough textual content on your content pages for related search to work properly on your site;
- If you are buying traffic for your content pages (i.e. inbound traffic where a user arrives at the landing page of the associated content search unit by clicking an ad or link on another site and the ad or link is under your control), pass “ad creative text” with the AdCreative referrer parameter in the associated search query;
- Place the associated research unit prominently on your pages to improve performance. Please refer to the relevant research requirements;
- You can add the language parameter to the related search code to ensure AdSense displays related search terms in the language of your choice;
- This is optional, but you can also supply your own search terms with the terms parameter in the associated search query. This will allow you to see terms more relevant to the page or user intent.
The main advantage of this Google AdSense feature is that you may be able to increase advertising revenue by directing users to internal search results, where AdSense will show them more ads. Also, it’s a bit like Google’s “related articles” feature.
In fact, Google Scholar presents a list of closely related articles, ranked mainly according to the similarity of these articles to the original result, but also taking into account the relevance of each article. This means that it can encourage users to explore your content further.
