Goossips: Helpful content update

Some information on Google (and sometimes Bing) and its search engine, gleaned here and there unofficially in recent days, with some answers to these heartbreaking questions scheduled for this week: content in language, had a net impact on search results (spoiler: the answer is “no”)?

Here is a small collection of information provided by official Google spokespersons in recent days on various informal networks (Twitter, Hangouts, forums, conferences, etc.). So “gossips” (rumors) + Google = “Goossips” 🙂

Since the communication of the search engine is sometimes more or less subject to caution, we indicate, in the lines below, the level of confidence (reliability rate) that we recognize in the information provided by Google (from 1 to 3 stars, 3 stars representing the maximum confidence rate) – and not at the source that talks about it.

Helpful content update
Google spokesperson Danny Sullivan chatted on Twitter with well-known SEO Glenn Gabe about the Helpful Content update, which Google touted as very important but didn’t actually seem to have had much of an impact on the SERPs. Danny explains: this is an important direction that people should pay attention to. That’s why we made such a big effort to talk about it. But “significant” doesn’t mean “a huge upheaval” in search results. He also explained that search engine engineers, based on the results of this first salvo, will continue to refine the classifier, and that if no low-quality content has been discovered this time, it could be during an upcoming update (and especially a next “core update”?) The Helpful Content Update also works, Danny reminds, with other signals that may not be updated yet, which could also change that in the future.

Confidence rate:
Danny then explains softly that this algorithm update is more of a communication effort by Google than an actual update with a major impact on search results. In this it can easily be compared to the “Mobilegueddon” which also gave birth to a mouse in 2015. The future will tell us what it is (especially for languages other than French) but it is certain that this non-event has disappointed many SEOs” serious” on the other side of the Atlantic…
