Between acquisition series, broadcast the day after South Korea, and its own productions, Netflix has an increasingly impressive catalog of series every week. To the point that it is easy to forget some releases, or some unknown series still present in their catalogue; fortunately, the editorial staff of CNET France has chosen three curiosities to discover this weekend. One of them comes from the Disney + / Star catalog, which is slowly but surely building its proposals from Korea, Japan or Taiwan. Our three picks this weekend are: Fault, Cafe Minamdang And Grill.
What series to discover this weekend on Netflix and Disney+?
A series from elsewhere on Netflix: technical problem
Summary: A young woman joins forces with a UFO enthusiast to investigate her boyfriend’s sudden disappearance and uncovers a delusional plot.
The opinion of CNET France: Even if it’s called the English title of the series technical problem, is not a remake of the Australian series that has also been in the Netflix catalog for a few years. Ji-hyo (Jeon Yeo-been) grew up with a boundless curiosity for science and his eyes fixed on the sky. She then became a rational and Cartesian thirty-year-old; her quiet work and orderly life with her partner Siguk (Lee Dong-hwi) suits him well. Her until one fateful evening when she, in the middle of a restaurant, she starts to get up from the table and hallucinate about a giant alien, who beckons “I’m watching you” on every screen in sight. Her terrified, the next day she finds herself several miles away; but she chooses to hide the reason for her wanderings from Siguk. Two days later she discovers that he has disappeared without a trace; as the mysterious clues multiply, she reluctantly decides to turn to a group of ufologists, who will allow her to find her childhood friend, Bo-ra Heo (singer Nana, also known as a member of a k-pop group).
technical problem it has for itself the chemistry between its two actresses and its characters lost in their respective lives who will join forces for an investigation literally on the edge of reality. Although the series may have comedic accents, it develops a real unreal atmosphere, marrying Ji-hyo’s point of view and going back and forth between the childhood and the present of its two protagonists. It deserves above all for its often spectacular realization and for its very accurate visual effects, and for the candor with which it develops a universe made up of fictions, plots and often obscure reversals of situation. A nice surprise that contrasts with the rest of the platform’s South Korean catalogue.

A charming crime comedy on Netflix: Minamdang Coffee
Summary: A shady establishment offering the services of a seemingly omniscient shaman attracts the attention of a tenacious police inspector.
The opinion of CNET France: Around a rock star who blends the fairer sex, theatrical sway, incomparable patter: Nam Han-joon (Seo In-guk) has the art of divination to clarify murders or crimes and decipher suspects instantly. Because Nam Han-joon is a shaman, a business he ran without a hitch for a few years in the back room of an elegant South Korean café, the Café Minamdang which gives its name to the series. But of course, Nam Han-joon has no superpowers or talents in shamanism. On the other hand, he uses his lapsed profiler talents and Sherlock Holmes-esque sense of observation to advance his affairs; to resurrect the dirty laundry he relies on his little sister, a computer genius with skills worthy of general information.
In its 18 episodes (unfortunately only available in the original version with French subtitles), Café Minamdang does everything to entertain its audience. Sleazy business mixing big Korean capital or high society; inspectors floundering in the investigation; and traps set by Nam Han-joon’s team. All this attracting suspicions, even the paraprofessional interests of Han Jae-hui (Oh Yeon-seo), who will start digging into his past to trace the traces of a case of corruption and murder that led to the hero of the series behind the bars. Light as an air bubble, which we often think of HPI extension oa Mentalist in Western equivalents; an uninhibited and sincere proposal that should occupy you for a weekend.

A mystery series on Disney+: Grill
Summary: Earth survived the cataclysmic solar winds, its planetary defense shield. Kim Saeha, an employee of the Bureau, meets a killer. Jung Saebyeok, a police officer is sent to arrest the killer. While pursuing the fugitive, he witnesses an incredible phenomenon.
The opinion of CNET France: Contrary to what one might think, Grill it’s not a series where the heroes try to prevent a defense shield from malfunctioning leading to the Apocalypse. But it’s an investigation to find a killer who killed a convenience store employee… which will lead a civil servant and a relentless police investigator on the trail of a ghost, an overpowered and armed character who seems to move at will. in space AND time.
From our weekend selection, Grill it is the one that best lends itself to a marathon; the keys and central mystery aren’t necessarily presented by the first episode, and the series takes time to develop its characters. The two protagonists, Kim Saeha (Seo Kang-joon), and Jung Sae-byok (Kim Ah-joong) do not have all the cards in hand to be able to follow paranormal events. In truth, they are short-circuited by a complex bureaucracy, including the Korean Grid administration, which merely observes suspicious events but lacks the capacity to investigate; and special forces and directors keeping evidence of the Grid creator herself away from the public and their own teams. Grill it’s a bit stingy with action scenes and focuses more on a long-term investigation; but it proves fascinating in the development of the characters, who have very particular ties to the Phantom, and whose past will come back to haunt them. A rather confusing series that manages to convince by slalom between crime, science fiction and fantasy.
