Google Chrome introduces a handy search shortcut. Say hello to the “@”.

Finding a tab among the many sites open in the browser can sometimes prove to be mission impossible. And sometimes you even end up just Googling the site you want and adding a duplicate listing to an already too big pile. Searching for bookmarks or digging through your browsing history is also not easy as you have to go to the respective pages first and then proceed with the search. Google Chrome offers a very useful shortcut.

Research was the core business of the Mountain View company. It is therefore logical that it offers very advanced features in this area. So it’s no surprise that Google has found a better way to search its browser’s tabs, bookmarks, or search history by creating specialized search shortcuts.

As reported by 9to5Google, Google added this new search feature in Chrome version 108. Instead of manually digging through tabs, bookmarks, and browsing history, use the “@” symbol. You can use “@tuaricerca” to quickly find what you are looking for.

Say hello to the “@”

To get started, click on Chrome’s address bar, type ‘@tabs’, ‘@bookmarks’ or ‘@history’. Press the spacebar or click Search Cards, Search Bookmarks, or Search History. Then type what you are looking for.

For example, for tabs, you can type “@tabs” and then “reception” to find the Gmail tab (“Gmail” doesn’t seem to work). With “@bookmarks”, type “begeek” to find your favorite site. Finally, with “@history”, you can find a recently visited site.

It’s a minor but useful addition that should make Chrome easier to use. Version 108 seems to be full of these kinds of little new features. Last week we took advantage of the power saving feature to preserve maximum battery life while using Chrome on a laptop. Today you can save battery and time to work even more efficiently!
